Carrie Kralicek

Carrie is the spouse of former police officer Mike Kralicek who suffered a near-fatal, debilitating injury in the line of duty.  Tragedy struck when a suspect shot Mike in the head while he was responding to a call, forever changing the course of his life and his family’s.  Mike’s injury landed him in a coma for several weeks, from which he awoke to discover that he no longer had the use of any of his limbs.

Fortunately, Carrie’s medical background, which has included experience as an emergency medical technician and as a registered nurse, helped to prepare her for some of what laid ahead.  She has naturally gained extensive additional experience while playing the roles of spouse and primary caregiver to Mike in the years since his injury.  However, some of the biggest challenges she faced came in the dealings with insurance companies and a system that apparently was unwilling to take adequate care of officers who suffer disabling injuries in the line of duty.

Carrie has not only used all of her experiences to ensure that Mike gets the care he needs and deserves, but she has also used it to advocate on behalf of countless others in similar situations.  Mike and Carrie, together, have even been able to spearhead permanent improvements to the system through legislative processes, making sure that others will not have to re-fight the same battles.  Despite many obstacles along the way, Carrie’s journey is ultimately a triumphant and inspirational one.

Like Mike, she enjoys sharing their individual, yet collective, stories with others, using them to educate, empower, and enlighten.  Using the knowledge and wisdom gained from their experiences, Carrie intends to continue producing positive change and providing further education on behalf of the catastrophically injured and their families.
